The other day a fellow cyclist commented on a bad experience she had with a motorist. While any road cyclist can recount a similar experience, I find that this is the exception rather than the rule.

Gambrill Graveyard Shift Jan. 3, 2007
Another great night ride was enjoyed at the Graveyard Shift! We were 17 strong at the ride start but due to a mechanical and one hard dose of lactic acid the group was whittled down to 15 within the first 10 minutes.

Wii Need Bicycles
Well here we are on Christmas Eve. Just about all of our Christmas layaways have been picked up and a few last minute shoppers are purchasing their final presents. An interesting thing happened this year.

Gambrill Graveyard Shift 12/20/06
This past episode of the Gambrill Graveyard Shift yielded lots of rocky fun. 17 riders joined in the off-road trek and 7 of us went to the brew pub following the ride for pizza and drinks.

Planning Commission Meetings…Everyone Should Attend at Least 1 in Their Life!
Last night (December 11, 2006) I (taking the picture) along with Tom (arrived after I took the picture), Mike (guy on the left in the picture) and his wife, Hayley (too hungry to be in the picture) joined a group of Frederick Pedalers in support of a proposed bicycle route connecting MD144 to the east with MD40 to the west.

Single Speed Conversions
The Bicycle Escape hosted our Single Speed Conversion Party last night. The pizza was great the drinks were cold and we all enjoyed the evening.

Thanksgiving Anniversary
Danielle and I have a great deal to be thankful for this Thanksgiving. In addition to celebrating good health, supportive family and great friends we have reached the one year anniversary of The Bicycle Escape.

Greenridge, Mountain Bikes, and New-Blood
This past weekend a few of us at The Bicycle Escape accompanied by a good friend Kevin (Man of Steel) went to Greenridge for a mountain bike camping trip. The trip was a great way for me to get away for a while and enjoy riding and good friends.

Most Likely to…Open a Bike Shop
Tom and I both graduated from Linganore High School in 1998, in fact, that is where we met and became good friends. It wasn’t until college that Tom swept me off my feet and we began dating but that’s another story…

A Date at Black Hills
This past Sunday, Tom and I went on a little “date ride” to Black Hill Regional Park in Boyds, MD (near Germantown). Neither of us had ever biked these trails before so we thought it would be fun to explore the area and take some snazzy photos for the website.

The Original Shop Bike
Shop BikeMany of you have seen the single-speed project bike that had the honor of being our first blog entry, but few of you have seen our original shop bike. This is the skinny-tired single speed that is used to navigate the shopping center to retrieve food, make change, and run other errands.

Spot Bash Guard
Spot Bash GauThe Guys and Gals at The Bicycle Escape are quite fond of running a bash guard in place of the big ring on our mountain bikes. Recently we documented one of the installations (on Danielle’s bike).

The Ultra Salute?
Well folks we’ve made it! A beer manufacture has labeled us one of America’s Best Bike Shops. We were listed in this month’s edition of Bicycling Magazine along with 20 other shops.

IF weekend (Tom’s Take)
The IF Weekend was a blast as Danielle mentioned. Matt gave a wonderful presentation, Mamma Lucia’s kept the great food stocked, and the micro brews were cold!

What a GRRREAT Weekend!
You are viewing the first batch of photos from last weekend’s Independent Fabrication event where IF President, Matt Bracken, spoke on the past, present and future of the company and it’s magnificent bikes.

18 Hours on the Farm 2006
ours_on_the _farm_2006Recently one of our guys named Kevin competed in an endurance event called 18 hours on the farm. This is his tale:

Blood, Sweat and Spray Paint
A few months back a customer abandoned an unwanted bike at the shop, a late 1980’s Specialized Hard Rock.
